Clayton Kershaw Encouraged With Start

Clayton Kershaw was encouraged by how he felt after a shaky, abbreviated return to the Dodgers on Saturday night.

Kershaw came off the disabled list and allowed two runs in three innings against the Mets. He threw 55 pitches, starting out strong before laboring through his final inning in an 8-3 win.

"Good to be back," Kershaw said. "Now I can focus on getting better."

St. Louis righty Michael Wacha lost a no-hit bid in the ninth inning for the second time in his career, denied when pinch-hitter Colin Moran led off with a single Sunday in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"It's just a slight disappointment because I wanted it," Wacha said. "I've flirted with it a couple times. It just didn't happen. Maybe next time."

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost six of their past eight games. And after a sweep at the hands of the San Francisco Giants, pitcher Jake Arrieta has reached a boiling point.

"Overall, it's just a really horse s--- series," Arrieta said after the Phillies' 6-1 loss on Sunday. "Really bad. Really bad."

Sunday's loss featured the team's only run scored of the entire series, one driven in by Arrieta with a solo homer in the third inning.
